From our own collection we are offering this wonderful and evocative Kingfisher sculpture in Bronze, mounted on a marble oval base and dating to the Art Deco period of the 1930's. Beautifully sculpted and incredibly gracefull as are many of the bronzes of this era, the detail and patination really show this piece off. The Kingfisher is depicted on a branch or reed having just dived to catch a fish which is in its beak. To balance the aspect, the designer has applied a wholly seperate but smaller set of reeds top the right hand side which frames the main subject and draws the eyes in. Even the marble base looks like a swirling piece of water. The main body of the bronze is marked with 'Dautrive' Bronze and the back of the main reeds show the makers mark 'Limousin'. This shows it to be correct for the period as Limousin are a famous manufacturer of both high end bronze and 'mass-market' spelter figures in the 1930's.
