A pretty Bursley Ware TL40 pattern Leaf shape plate by Charlotte Rhead in the Carnations Pattern, dating to the 1920's. This unusual shaped plate is in stunning condition for its age, and shows off the typical early tube-lined work by Charlotte Rhead with bold design and striking blue and gold colours on a mottled grey ground.
The plate is marked to the base 'Bursley-Ware Charlotte Rhead England' and carries the hand-written pattern number TL40, the tube-liners mark for May Powell which is an I underneath the pattern number and the paintress mark which is a J in gold.
The plate measures approximately 10 inches across and has no chips, cracks or restoration, though there is a tiny firing flaw or kiln sprue mark on the inderside which is unnoticeable when displayed. There is also a small amount of glaze crazing which can only be seen on close inspection.
