A rare and highly desirable Clarice Cliff Autumn Crocus Sugar Sifter in the rare Conical shape. These conical sifters are the 'holy grail' of Clarice collectors, and fewer are appearing in undamaged condition.

This sifter dates between 1936 and 1938 as it carries the black 'Clarice Cliff Wilkinson Ltd England' backstamp which predates the green backstamp.

Painted in strong colours with large, bold crocus flowers it stands approximately 6 inches tall, and is complete with its original red tin-covered cork stopper. No chips, cracks or crazing and just a few very small scratches to the enamel and some age related glaze staining which can be seen as slightly darker area's. This staining is likely due to the sifter having been exposed to a damp environment for some of its life, where the moisture can be taken up into the ceramic through the unglazed portion of the foot.
