A very collectable and highly desirable Clarice Cliff Autumn Crocus Sugar Sifter in the rare Conical shape. These conical sifters are the 'holy grail' of Clarice collectors, and fewer are appearing in undamaged condition. This sifter dates between 1936 and 1938 as it carries the black 'Clarice Cliff Wilkinson Ltd England' backstamp which predates the green backstamp.
Of interest will be that this sifter was owned and cherished by the famous footballer, pundit and TV presenter Jimmy Greaves, now 71 who has been a Clarice collector for many years. Jimmy was England's third highest international goalscorer, the highest goalscorer in the history of Tottenham Hotspur football club, the highest goalscorer in the history of English top flight football and more recently a television pundit - famous for his trademark catchphrase it's a funny old game. He is considered to be one of the finest goalscorers of his generation.
This sifter is painted in strong colours with large, bold crocus flowers it stands approximately 6 inches tall, and is complete with its original cork stopper. No chips, cracks, crazing or restoration, but with a few small scratches to the enamel as is usual with pieces of this vintage. A lovely sifter with great provenance that would grace any Clarice Cliff collection.
