Another rare find is this early Pomegranate bottle vase by William Moorcroft, circa 1916. In a varied green and blue ground with five bright clear pomegranates, two of which are sliced, showing their seeds. The pomegranates are surrounded by leaves and grapes and the top rim is also decorated around its circumference with leaves and grapes.
The base of the vase carries the Moorcroft Burslem England backstamp dating it accurately to 1916. Additionally there is William Moorcroft's full signature written in green glaze. Like the wide vase we also have for sale, the signature is beautifully clear and has been done with a fine brush so gives an absolutely perfect signature.
This early version of Williams Pomegranate design is incredibly rare, and they hardly ever become available at auction.
In beautiful condition the vase has the usual age-related crazing to the glaze. There is also a tiny glaze 'pop' which probably occurred during firing, but this in no way affects the piece. There are no cracks, hairlines or detectable restoration.
Vase is 6 inches (15cm) tall and 4 inches (10cm) diameter at the widest point across its 'waist'.
