An early Pomegranate vase by William Moorcroft, circa 1916 in the rare two-handled fluted design more usually seen in the Macyntire Florian Ware designs. Vase is decorated in stunning varied green and cobalt blue ground with six bright clear pomegranates, one of which is open showing the seeds. The pomegranates are surrounded by leaves and grapes. One of the most stunning things about this vase is that the inside of the rim is decorated around its circumference with a profusion of leaves and grapes.
The base of the vase carries the Moorcroft Burslem England backstamp dating it accurately to 1916. Additionally there is William Moorcroft's full signature extremely clearly written in green glaze. This is another beautifully clear signature as most are usually somewhat indestinct having been painted with a fairly broad brush. This has been done with a fine brush so shows an absolutely perfect signature.
In beautiful condition with no chips, cracks or restoration, this would make a stunning centrepiece of any Moorcroft collection. The vase stands an impressive 8½ inches (21cm) high by 7 inches (18cm) across the handles, the diameter of the vase opening being 5 inches (12.5cm).
