An early Plum Wisteria Baluster shape Vase from the hand of William Moorcroft with a full hand-painted signature by William in green and impressed Moorcroft Burslem marks dating this piece between 1914 and 1918. A rare example of the early development of the Plum Wisteria pattern following the move to William's Cobridge works.
The vase is a beautiful graduated pale blue/white to cobalt blue ground with 13 pairs of Wisteria Plums in shades of yellow, pink and purples, surrounded by leaves and flower buds. Vase stands at 6¼ inches (16cm) tall with a maximum diameter of 3½ inches (9cm). In beautiful condition save for some glaze crazing as is normal on vintage Moorcroft items, and two very small lathe flaws (manufacturing faults) on the circumference of the base rim which form part of the character of this hand-made pottery.
Plum Wisteria is highly sought after by collectors and the early version is seldom seen and rarely available. This vase would form a stunning focus to any collection.
