A really beautiful 8 inch tall Wisteria fluted bottle Vase by William Moorcroft and dating between 1920 and 1929. The base of the vase is fully signed by William Moorcroft in green, and bears the impressed small MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND factory marks, and the shape number 62. Having the green full signature would indicate though that the vase was made closer to 1920 as William started to sign in the standard Cobalt Blue colour later in the period.
The vase has a wonderful slightly mottled Cobalt Blue colour, with the colours of the Wisteria fruits in yellow, pink and purple and the leaves in cream and celadon. What makes this vase an extra special piece is the fact that there is a further garland of fruits and leaves around the neck of the vase which is also not seen on the later pieces. Overall there are 13 pairs of Wisteria fruits which give this piece a huge visual impact.
The vase is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or significant age-related glaze crazing, however there is a light glaze scratch to the underside of the body which is not noticeable when the vase is displayed and mentioned for complete accuracy and is all part of its history.
Overall, a really lovely early vase in a shape and pattern combination that is rarely available.
