Another rare find is this unusual Flambé George VI Coronation Goblet by William Moorcroft, which can be accurately dated to May 1937. This piece is both an unusual shape and is decorated in a manner not normally seen on coronation pieces. It shows a crown, with hand script beneath of the date May 12 1937. These coronation pieces normally have the crown with a G and R on either side, and the year beneath.
The Flambé glaze over the graduated blue glaze gives a wonderful lustre effect, and the crown is highlighted clearly in flambé. The interior of the goblet is a rare 'strawberry red' colour. The base of the vase carries the Moorcroft England, 'Potter to HM the Queen' and impressed William Moorcroft signature backstamp. Additionally there is William Moorcroft's monogram signed in blue glaze.
In beautiful condition, there are no cracks, hairlines or detectable restoration though there are a number of tiny surface scratches to the glaze just to the right of the crown. The goblet is 11cm tall and 7cm diameter at the widest point across the rim.
A very unusual and rare piece that would grace any Moorcroft collection and would stand out from the usual floral designs.
