Introduced in 1997 and designed by John Ablitt, this Royal Crown Derby paperweight modeled as a Mallard Duck is in the wonderful traditional Imari colours made famous by the Royal Crown Derby pottery. This piece has the date cypher for 1999 and is in its correct period Royal Blue box.
Arguably one of the most detailed and colourful in the paperweight range, this model has a wonderful green with gold speckled head and yellow and gold on the beak. His breast feathers are picked out in gold and red, whilst his wings are blue, red and gold. The base has its gold stopper showing it as a 1st quality piece, the Royal Crown Derby backstamp and the date cypher LXII for 1999.
Whilst this particular model is still produced and sold by Royal Crown Derby, the retail price is about £130 so in the current climate it can pay to buy from the secondary market to give great savings. The only difference between this piece and a brand new one is the date cypher; and of course the price!
