Susie Cooper was born in 1902 and had a long and varied career in the pottery industry. Her first job with A.E. Gray of Hanley in 1922 led to her becoming a designer. She set up her own business in 1929, and the opportunity to create her own shapes alongside her famous patterns came in 1931 when Harry Wood offered her space at the Crown Works in Burslem. Mergers during the 1950's saw the introduction of dinner wares to join the famous tea wares, and the success of the Susie Cooper name continued following the merger with Wedgwood in 1966. Susie was awarded the OBE in 1979. The Crown Works was closed in 1980, so Susie moved to another part of the Wedgwood Group - William Adams & Sons, designing oven-to-table wares. She retired at the age of 84, producing what she called 'Seed Paintings' and textile designs in the tranquil setting of the Isle of Man, where she died in 1995. There are currently no items in stock.
