Becoming much harder to find on the open market now is the Chimney Vase. This unusual example is decorated by Avril Bennet who worked at Troika Newlyn from 1973 to 1979. Avril's work is some of the most desirable because of her use of strong colours and crisp decoration.
This Chimney is unusual in that the obverse side is painted with an olive green ground with muted brown, beige and green highlights. The reverse has a Petrol Blue ground with strong brown, dark green and white to the incised decoration. The 'edge' and chimney of the vase is glazed in a bright white gloss glaze.
Vase is in excellent condition but exhibits some of the usual in-factory flaws commonly associated with this type of pottery. The vase has a small amount of colour bleed onto the white edge and a visible mould casting line across the top. Vase stands 20cm (8") tall (max) and is 11.5cm (4½") wide by 4.5cm (1¾") deep.
Due to its unusual colour combinations, It has been suggested that this vase was in fact a trial/test piece and as such, imperfect biscuit bodies would have been used. Certainly one to add to the collection!
