A classic Marmalade Pot from the Troika Pottery in Newlyn, this piece was decorated by Simone Kilburn who joined Troika in the autumn of 1975 straight from school and worked under Avril Bennet for just 18 months, leaving in the spring of 1977. Her work is always of an excellent quality and is sought after and highly regarded by Troika collectors, due in some part to the short period she worked there and also the fact that Simone is now a highly respected and collected artist in her own right (see www.simonekilburn.co.uk)
As is usual for these pots, all four sides have incised decoration, with two panels highlighted, one in moss green and the other in a light beige. The opposite pair of panels are coloured in the plain deep blue ground, all panels show abstract and organic patterns. The shoulder of the pot is a very deep blue and the interior is in the usual white tin glaze.
These small Troika pots are very sought after collectors pieces and would make a good investment, special gift or a nice addition to any collection of Cornish art pottery. In excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration, the pot stands 10cm (4 inches) tall to the rim, is 7.5cm (3 inches) square and carries the hand-painted Troika pottery mark and Simone's monogram - SK
