Commonly called a Spice Jar but also known as a Chimney Pot Vase because of its shape resembling a household chimney pot, these come in a huge range of patterns and colours and make a popular collectors item.
This particular jar or vase has been Decorated by Louise Jinks who worked for Troika between 1976 and 1981, and who was Senior Decorator from 1979. This vase is of the typical rough texture, with the base colour in an overall light brown or beige colour with highlights in the pattern on two faces being picked out in beige, grey and light blue, with a tiny area in the high-gloss lilac colour. The neck and shoulders of the pot are in the irridescent bronze colour as is the inside. The base is hand signed by Louise Jinks, with the usual Troika mark and the stylised LJ monogram. It stands 14.5cm (5¾") tall and 7cm (2¾") square and is in perfect unmarked condition. There are a few small glaze pops on the high gloss shoulders and stem of the pot which is normal for this type of pottery and happend whilst firing due to dust specs in the glaze burning off in the kiln.
A beautiful piece of art pottery from the famous Troika pottery and a sought after decorator.
