Commonly called a Spice Jar but also known as a Chimney Pot Vase because of its shape resembling a household chimney pot, these come in a huge range of patterns and colours and make a popular collectors item.
This jar has been decorated by Simone Kilburn in a plain brown colour with the incised design depicting on opposite sides, a 'matchstick man' and a large flower. The other two sides show more common Aztec and 'Waffle' patterns. The shoulders and neck of the pot are in the a subtle blue/grey mottled gloss glaze. Simone joined Troika in the autumn of 1975 straight from school and worked under Avril Bennet for just 18 months, leaving in the spring of 1977 so her work is quite sought after.
The base of the jar bears the handwritten Troika Cornwall mark and the SK monogram for Simone Kilburn. It stands 14.5cm (5¾") tall and 7cm (2¾") square and is in perfect unmarked condition.
