Commonly called a Spice Jar but also known as a Chimney Pot Vase because of its shape resembling a household chimney pot, these come in a huge range of patterns and colours and make a popular collectors item.
This particular jar or vase has been decorated by Alison Brigden (later Strutt) who worked at the Troika Newlyn pottery from 1976 until 1983. She was Head Decorator from 1981 and took over from Louise Jinks when she left Troika.
The pot shows a decorating style typical of Alison Brigden, with strong colours and deeply incised and outlined patterns. The rough textured areas are in the highly desirable 'Troika blue' colour with highlights in the pattern on two faces being picked out in grey, green and light blue. The neck and shoulders of the pot are in bronze lustre gloss glaze as is the inside. The base is hand signed by Alison Brigden, with the usual Troika mark and the AB monogram. It stands 14.5cm (5¾") tall and 7cm (2¾") square and is in perfect unmarked condition.
