An really beautifully and unusually painted Troika T2901 Urn Vase. This vase is approximately 10 inches (26cm) tall by 5 inches (13 cm) wide and decorated by Simone Kilburn who joined Troika in the autumn of 1975 straight from school and worked under Avril Bennet for just 18 months, leaving in the spring of 1977. Her work is always of an excellent quality and is sought after and highly regarded by Troika collectors, due in some part to the short period she worked there and also the fact that Simone is now a highly respected and collected artist in her own right (see www.simonekilburn.co.uk)
The 'Urn' was Troika's take on a classically shaped vase which was conventionally hand-thrown on a potters wheel. The vase is decorated in a rough finish and has an overall 'sand' texture as is usually found on the Urns and Cylinders. The vase is decorated in shades of light and dark brown, with blue bands and gloss blue triangles and is overwashed in a light moss green. The inside of the vase is in the titanium white high gloss tin glaze. The base carries the usual Troika hand-painted marks and Simone's initials in black.
This vase is in excellent condition and is a really beautiful example of this increasingly rare style of vase that would certainly fit in to any Troika or Cornish Ceramics collection.
