A T3003 Large Wheel Vase in the very desirable 'Taj Mahal' pattern and decorated by Sally Bart who worked at the Newlyn pottery in the mid 1970's.
The Taj pattern is a very sought-after design and is seldom available. This vase is approximately 20cm (8 inches) diameter and is about 5cm (2 inches) wide. It is decorated in rough stone glaze in with the main body in 'Troika Blue' with areas of the pattern picked out in grey/blue, beige and brown. The base carries the hand-written Troika Cornwall mark and the SB monogram for Sally Bart.
The vase is in good overall condition however there are a number of firing cracks which we have uncovered. There are two at the lip and one on the base (see photographs above). On close inspection, these can clearly be seen as firing cracks which happened in the kiln whilst the vase was cooling after final firing. This tends to be a 'feature' of these large wheels which harbour lots of stress during firing due to the shape and the way the holes were cut. We have noted it here as we try and be as accurate with our condition reports as possible and do not want our customers to be disappointed.
The price we offer this vase at reflects the fact that it isn't 100% perfect (though Troika seldom is due to it's very nature), however taken overall it is a stunning large wheel in a very rare and desirable pattern and colour that would make a fine addition to any Troika collection.
