A T3004 Medium Wheel Vase in a rare pattern now usually referred to as the Nautilus design due to one face being similar to that of a Nautilus shell found on some of the Cornish beaches. The reverse side has a very strong and deeply sculpted geometric pattern making this an incredibly tactile piece that just needs to be handled.
This vase is a stunning example of its type, decorated by Avril Bennet who worked at Troika in Newlyn from 1973 to 1979. Avril's work is some of the most desirable because of her use of strong colours and crisp decoration.
The vase is approximately 16.5cm (6½") diameter and is about 4.5cm (1¾") wide. It is decorated in matt and semi-gloss glaze in an earth brown ground with areas of the pattern picked out in shades of beige, grey, green and white. The base carries the hand-written Troika mark and the stylised monogram AB for Avril Bennet. A beautiful vase in lovely condition with no chips, cracks or restoration evident, just some slight staining to the white tin-glaze interior.
