An really nice T3005 Small Wheel Vase decorated by a currently unidentified decorator with the EW mark. Decorated in earth tones which were very 'in' during the late '70's and early '80's, the front face has four circles set into squares in deep relief, the verso showing a large central 'tablet' with an arch in geometric pattern over.
During the Newlyn era between 1970 and 1983, particularly towards the end of the period, Troika employed a large number of short term and part time decorators, many from the Government YTS scheme. There are a couple of unidentified decorators marks which crop up quite frequently, EW being one, and MM another, and whilst it is possible that these were YTS trainees, the quantity and quality of their work seem to indicate otherwise. Research into these currently unidentified marks continues, and no doubt at some point in the future they will be identified. As an example, the mark for Tamsin Ruhrmund was only verified in 2006.
The vase has a diameter of 9cm (4½ inches) and 2.5cm (1 inch) deep and the base carries the usual Troika mark and the EW monogram. It is in In excellent overall condition, with no damage or restoration. An nicely decorated vase that would grace any Troika collection, or as a single example of this fabulous art pottery.
