A rare Whitefriars pattern 9759 'Double Diamond' vase designed by Geoffrey Baxter and produced between 1971 and 1974 and in the Kingfisher Blue colourway. Because of the way this vase was moulded there is no pontil as the vase has a ground and polished rim as opposed to a flame polished rim, therefore the Punty Rod wasn't needed to hold the vase into the furnace. Vase is in wonderful condition with no chips, cracks or scratches, though one side does have a light flow line which can be seen in certain light running diagonally across the neck.
In 1965 Baxter dragged the Whitefriars glass works in London into the 20th Century with his iconic 'textured range' which used radical production methods whereby many of the moulds were 'patterned' with nails, wire, bark, bits of wood and metal to create the designs, with the mould not only giving the surface texture but also the shape. Each piece is hand blown and no two pieces are exactly the same, and most pieces have small bubbles, ash inclusions and can vary in size quite noticeably.
