A very unusual Wilkinsons (Clarice Cliff) Petite Fleur Sugar Sifter in the rare Conical shape. Petite Fleur is a recognised Clarice Cliff pattern and can be found and referenced on page 144 of Comprehensively Clarice Cliff (Greg Slater).
This sifter dates from 1930 and carries the plain Wilkinson Ltd backstamp which was prevalent from 1928 and what should be understood is that there was a great deal of overlap between the Clarice Cliff and Wilkinson sections of the factory, and at times, casters and decorators would work between both sections. Its often seen that many pieces known to be Clarice Cliff patterns and designs carry only a Wilkinson or Newport backstamp. In the same way, many pieces not considered to be Clarices own designs often carry the Clarice Cliff Bizarre bckstamps.
The flowers are painted in strong colours with clear brush strokes, and it stands approximately 6 inches tall. No chips, cracks or restoration but it does show some surface crazing to the honeyglaze ground which is often seen withthis glaze.
