An incredibly rare and stunningly beautiful 12 inch tall Banded Pomegranate Baluster Vase by William Moorcroft and dating to circa 1925. The vase bears Williams full signature in blue and also the impressed Moorcroft Cobridge factory marks. This 'simplified' Pomegranate design was introduced in the 1920's to fit in with the Art Deco movement, with linear and geometric design being applied in harmony with the Art Nouveau patterns of the early 1900's. Calling this design 'simplified' though just doesn't do justice to the beauty and delicacy of the bands, with each one being intricately tubelined and coloured with stylised flower-petal, leaf and peacock feather designs.
Banded wares are particularly rare, with few pieces ever becoming available. We have a matching vase to this but in the Flambé glaze which gives a good comparison to what happens when a vase is treated to the Flambé process.
The vase is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration, however there is a light overall crazing as is to be expected from a vase of this age. There are also a couple of small scratches to the body which are barely noticeable and mentioned for complete accuracy.
The vase stands 12 inches (31cm) tall ans is about 6 inches (15cm) across the widest part.
