An absolutely stunning Flambé Leaf and Berry Vase from the hand of William Moorcroft. This vase dates from 1928 and carries a full hand-painted signature by William, and also the impressed Royal Warrant mark 'Potter to HM the Queen', the queen in this instance being Queen Mary who awarded the Royal Warrant to Moorcroft on the 28th March 1928.
The vase is a wonderful irridescent flame red colour, running into blues and greens at the base where the flambe glaze has mixed with the base colours. Flambé glaze used real gold in the process and was an incredibly difficult technique producing many more failures than perfect pieces. The Leaf and Berry (or Autumn Leaves) was primarily created as a vehicle for the Flambé technique and this vase demonstrates it to perfection.
Vase stands 7" tall with a maximum diameter of 5".
