An absolutely stunning early Pomegranate vase by William Moorcroft dating circa 1916, this is one of a matched pair we have available. This vase is decorated in stunning varied green and cobalt blue ground with seven large clear pomegranates, one of which is sliced open showing the seeds. The pomegranates are surrounded by leaves and grapes and one of the most stunning things about this vase (apart from its size) is that the foot of the vase is decorated around its circumference with a profusion of leaves and grapes.

Standing at just under 12½ inches high with a maximum diameter of about 5½ inches, this vase would dominate any collection, particularly if displayed with its matched partner. Because Moorcroft vases of this period are completely hand thrown, turned and decorated, no two vases are identical and vary not only in pattern but also in size and weight. You can view its matched partner here.

The base of the vase carries the Moorcroft Burslem England backstamp dating it accurately to 1916, and the shape number M40.  Additionally there is William Moorcroft's full signature extremely clearly painted in green glaze. This is a beautifully clear signature as most are usually somewhat indestinct having been painted with a fairly broad brush.

The vase is in stunning condition, with only very minor glaze crazing most noticeably on the base. There is a very minor firing frit to the foot which just barely intrudes into the glaze, and is not at all noticeable. We mention this for complete accuracy in our description.
