A rare and beautifully decorated 6.5 cm tall miniature Pomegranate squat or onion vase by William Moorcroft circa 1918 to 1929. The base carries Williams hand painted monogram in blue, and the impressed small Moorcroft and Made in England factory marks enabling the vase to be accurately dated.
This vase has five wonderfully clear pomegranates with leaves surrounded by berries on a graduated celadon and light blue through to cobalt blue ground. One of the pomegranates is sliced through, showing its seeds. The decoration on this vase is absolutely stunning as the Pomegranates, leaves and berries have been scaled to suit the size of the vase, and the attention to detail is amazing.
Pomegranate is one of the most collected and sought after patterns, with miniature vases being particularly desirable as the quality of decoration has to be perfect.
In beautiful condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. No crazing to the body but as is usual with pieces of this age, the base does show some minor crazing. A very worthy addition to any collection and a rare piece to find so well decorated in this size.
Note: The last photograph is to show the size against a standard 6 inch tall bottle vase for comparison. The bottle vase is not included in the sale of this piece.
