An impressive and well decorated 3½ inch 'broad-waisted' Pomegranate Vase by William Moorcroft circa 1920. The base carries the Cobridge impressed factory marks and is also initialled in blue by William. As there is no Royal Warrant mark and impressed facsimile signature, this dates the piece to before 1928 when the warrant from Queen Mary was introduced.
This vase has five beautifully painted pomegranates, one of which is open and the seeds exposed, with leaves surrounded by berries on a ground graduating from Celedon green to a dark cobalt blue at the base. The pomegranates have a stunning 3d quality due to the colour shading, and the vase overall has a wonderful depth of decoration.
Pomegranate is one of the most collected and sought after patterns, with small and miniature vases being particularly desirable as the quality of decoration has to be perfect.
In beautiful condition with no chips, cracks or restoration, though there are a couple of tiny scratches to the glaze. There is barely any crazing and what there is can only be seen when examined at close quater. This vase would make a very worthy addition to any collection.
