A beautifully decorated 4½ inch 'Egg-shaped' Pomegranate Vase by William Moorcroft circa 1928. The base carries the impressed factory mark with facsimile signature and 'Potter to HM The Queen' and is also initialled in blue by William. In 1936 the wording of the warrant changed on the death of King George V which dates this piece quite accurately.
This vase has five wonderfully clear pomegranates, one of which is open and the seeds exposed, with leaves surrounded by berries on a dark cobalt blue ground. The pomegranates have a stunning 3d quality due to the colour shading, and the vase overall has a depth not often seen with this pattern as the cobalt blue can often appear almost black.
Pomegranate is one of the most collected and sought after patterns, with small and miniature vases being particularly desirable as the quality of decoration has to be perfect.
In beautiful condition with no chips, cracks or restoration, though there are a couple of tiny scratches to the glaze. There is barely any crazing and what there is can only be seen when examined at close quater. This vase would make a very worthy addition to any collection.
