An unusual Pomegranate Jar and Cover by William Moorcroft dating to between 1918 and 1920. It has Williams initials in GREEN on the base along with the small Moorcroft and Made in England impressed marks enabling the piece to be accurately dated. The 'Made in' was introduced in 1918 to comply with US Import rules, and subsequent to 1920, the Moorcroft stamp was enlarged.
The jar is in perfect condition and stands 9.5cm tall and has a diameter of approximately 8.5cm. What makes this jar interesting is that there has been some bleeding of the cobalt blue colour in the kiln when it was fired. This gives the jar a wonderfully organic look.
A rare shape in the Pomegranate pattern, this jar would make a wonderful addition to any Moorcroft collection.
